In this video, we're going to talk about how to set goals that electrify you. So in the metaphor that we're talking about, goals are like the spark plug of your engine. They provide the spark, they light the gasoline, they are the source of combustion, and when done right, they should ignite you. So we're going to talk about how to set goals mistakes a lot of people make

in setting goals and a world-class process for making sure that your goals jolt you out of bed every morning. So here are the problems that happen when people try to set goals, and there are a bunch of them. So first, a lot of entrepreneurs just sort of wake up and say, you know, I want to sport your car, or I'm going to penthouse, or I want to

be able to fly wherever I want in the world, just pick up and fly anywhere, something like that. And that's okay. Those are fine goals to have. In fact, for some people, those are incredible goals to have. The problem is when people just have that thought and then immediately say, okay, that's my goal. The problem with this is that they don't go through a process, they don't

have a benchmark, they don't have values, they don't have any sort of compass to make sure that this goal is in line with their vision and intended legacy. If an entrepreneur follows every enticing thought that pops into their head, they're never going to achieve anything significant in the long term. So waking up with thoughts of ambitions and goals and things like that is fine. In fact, it's

part of what makes you an entrepreneur, it's part of what will help you develop some of your most valuable goals. However, you need to be able to check and make sure that they're in line with what you're trying to achieve in the world, and they don't detract from or slow down your accomplishment of your long term vision. The worst case scenario of this is when people see

what others have and set that as their goal. I personally have done this in the past when I set goals like really nice apartments or sports cars or things like that, and ultimately achieve them and they were empty. An example is I set as a goal getting this gorgeous apartment in Austin, Texas, and I did. I achieved it, it was far more expensive than anything I'd ever

paid for, and it was cool for about a month, and then it got old. When I thought about it, at that point in my life, at that point in my entrepreneurial career, a really nice apartment didn't really provide that much value to my life, it didn't really fit into my vision. There's a point where it would, but I wasn't at that point in that point in my

life. I had just picked it because I thought it was cool, because I'd seen, in fact, because I'd seen somebody else with a really nice apartment and thought that's what I want, I want a nice apartment, and I just picked that with my goal, but it didn't really make sense. This is something that's really insidious, a lot of people let it happen without realizing it. Now, the

next mistake that people make when setting goals, particularly sailboat stage entrepreneurs, people who are freelancers or trading hours for dollars, they rarely have a rigorous analytical process for evaluating their strengths and weaknesses and setting goals to solve these weaknesses and utilize their strengths. So, this is actually very common. A lot of entrepreneurs don't have awareness of any type of process. They don't know that there is any

type of process. They think that goal setting is just something where you sit down and you think about what you want, and then you write it down. And you can cycle this way, but as I mentioned in the last video, you often lose track of certain areas of your business that are crucial, and then all of a sudden they turn into big problems that you have to

deal with that can sink your ship, can sink your boat if you let them get out of hand. So, you need to make sure that there aren't any threats, any areas that are just building up and waiting to explode, but instead you're keeping a careful eye on all the key areas of your business and looking at your numbers. Finally, and this is a big one, and it's

sort of what I talk about in the beginning in the first problem, but it's a little bit different. When your goal isn't aligned with your deepest why, with the reason that you got into business in the first place, with what gets you out of bed in the morning, with what fulfills you and makes you happy, your subconscious mind knows it. It can tell. You can't really trick

your mind. And when this happens, you subtly sabotage yourself so that you don't achieve it. And everybody watching this video has experienced this at some point in the past where you've set a goal, but sort of been like, you know, halfheartedly trying to achieve it or your heart's not in it. And you just feel this subtle misalignment and you never achieve those goals. You never hit them

because you don't have the grit, you don't have the fire in your belly that you need to achieve an ambitious goal. Whenever goal is not aligned with your deepest why, you subtly self-sabotage. So here's the solution. Here's what we want. First of all, you want goals and projects that are derived from your long-term vision, your intended legacy, and are totally in line with what drives you and

fulfills you. You want to look at your goals and say, hell yes, these are beautiful. These are perfect. This is exactly what I need to achieve this quarter in order to fulfill my mission. Next you want goals that are carefully crafted to utilize your strengths and either solve or completely avoid your weaknesses. So you're never left wondering, am I missing something? Am I missing something? Is something

going to blow up in my face at some point in the future? That is an awful feeling to feel like you might be just missing something in your business, whether it's tech or finances or a missing team member or something like that. That is going to sink your business. If you take careful stock of all the different areas of your business before crafting your goals, you'll make

sure that if anything starts to come up, you'll immediately set a goal around solving it. Finally, you want goals that are aligned with your deepest why, because when this happens, your subconscious mind is electrified. When you align your goals with what drives you on the deepest subconscious level, you're virtually jolted out of bed each morning, filled with motivation. You don't need motivational videos. You don't need motivational

quotes. You don't need words of inspiration. You just work and you're happy to do it because your goals are exactly what you want. So here's the process that we're going to go through and I'll walk you through the worksheet in a minute, but we're going to pick three business goals and three personal goals for this upcoming quarter. I only pick goals within a 90-day time period because

the time span, because there's research showing that goals outside of a 90-day time span lose their motivational power significantly. It drops off after the 90-day point. It only set goals within a 90-day time period, and I often recommend setting due dates at the end of each month. It's just a nice way to break it down. You don't have to do this, but I'll set if I'm setting

my goals for quarter. Then the quarter starts in June because I just did that. The first date will be July 1st, my first business goal and first personal goal will be due then. Then I'll have my next business goal, next personal goal due in August 1st, then I'll have my last business goal and my last personal goal due in September. That's one way to do it. You

don't have to, but I like that way. Next, make sure your goals are highly specific. They should be very detailed. You should be able to visualize very clearly what you want to accomplish. They should be measurable. You should have numbers or metrics. You need a date. You need a specific date that they're due. A good metric for this is if you handed this to a friend or

even a stranger, would they be able to tell what you're talking about and decide for themselves whether you've achieved it? If not, you need to be a little bit more specific or more measurable. Finally, once you've written down your goals, underneath each goal, write a short paragraph explaining why you chose this goal and why it's aligned with your vision. Then once you've done this, pick projects that

will help you complete these goals. I'll get into this in a minute. If you struggle to write a short paragraph explaining why this goal is important, pick a new goal. When you pick the right goal, when you pick something that is aligned with your deepest drives, you will not struggle at all. In fact, you'll have to try to write less so that you can actually fit it

into one paragraph. It's a really good benchmark. If you struggle with this, you have absolutely not picked the right goal. Let's look at the process. This is part two of the workbook that we started last time. Here's how it works. We start out by talking about your vision. I talk about your vision and your legacy a lot, so we get clear on what that is. What are

you excited about? What are the opportunities coming up? What are things you're proud of a year from now? A bunch of questions that have you project yourself into the future and think about where you want to go. Then we talk about outcomes. We have you list all the possible goals you could achieve. Then we have you look at your strengths and weaknesses that you identified in the

last quarter. Then we look at some of the projects you could achieve this quarter. By the way, for this quarter, most, if not all of your projects, are probably going to come from this Configure Agency Accelerator. They're going to be things like complete this section of the course or implement this strategy from the course. You might have to do some operation stuff on your side and keep

up the cash flow that you had coming into this course, but a lot of the projects are going to be pulled from this course. Then we have you go through and pick a theme for the quarter. A theme is we talk about this later when we get into constraints in ZNOS, but a theme is an example of a constraint. It's something that just simplifies your quarter. It

says you don't have to worry about everything this quarter. Just worry about this. Examples of this are, I have up here, sales blitz, marketing madness, product, supercharging, staff, financial mastery, often just set themes of sales calls or automation or those are examples of recent themes I've had. It says you can basically ignore everything else. Just think about this, and your theme for this quarter could be Six

Figure Agency Accelerator, but it should be something. It can be whatever. It should be something, however, that gives you a level of clarity and acceptance. Once you've done that, we go through and pick your goals and the process that I've outlined, the fours right here, and then you list some of the projects that you want to accomplish, and then whatever projects you want to accomplish in the

first week, and then you break them into chunks and put them into your calendar with a specific date, time, and location. This is something you should do with any project, but a lot of people don't do it. Make sure you do it. It is crucial, and it's a key point in ZNOS. That is the process. When you're done, your goals share them in the Facebook community and

will give you feedback. A lot of times people make, there are a lot of mistakes that people make when missing goals, even after watching trainings like this, so it's important that you post your goals and me and Matt look them over and make sure that they are good to go. That's it. We will see you in the next video.
